Just spotted some photos of Gringos proposed new venture – Vietnam in the 60s. A Patton tank and mule. Look really stunning and the sculpts look really good. They're on route for Hue 1968 Nam range of figures and vehicles.
Well worth a look

Could you provide a link as I see nothing on the website?

thanks for the posting Davejl..appreciated! and the support
Dwight the caliber of the recoiless rifle was indeed 105mm but was called a 106mm to put on notice the ammo for the m40 would not actually fit the Mule (m27)..so same weapon..

Yes, the M274 Mule does not much discussion or game play. But it was there and useful. When I got to the 101 in '80. old fart IIRC, each Rifle Plt had one and the 81mm mortar Plt 3 or 4 ? All left over from Vietnam AFAIK. We beat them to death … and they didn't last long. And many ended up in the Can Yard.

Cool! I'm a Gringo40s fan. Their mounted Texas Ranger is one of my favorite models ever, miniature or not.

Thanks for the link. I have 4 platoons a side already but only half painted. I will buy some of the offers but unfortunately not all.

Legion 4 great story!
Yes and it's true. They were just a platform with a steering wheel, 4 "balloon" tires, no real suspension, and a big lawn mower engine.

Every time the Riggers tried to drop them, most ended up in the back of a Deuce and 1/2 … Then to the Can Yard for parts.

I remember we sent about 6-7 to the Riggers to practice dropping loads. They called me when they were done. And told me don't send down any of the Mule drivers. Just a truck … to carry back what was left … frown laugh

These look great. I've already got some 28mm Vietnam figures from other manufacturers, but I can't resist the prospect of Hue '68.

No but rode on them a number of times. Kind of fun ! The Mules in the 101 Rifle and Mortar Plts were not armed.

At one point the AT unit in the Infantry Bn had TOWs mounted on them IIRC. But by '82(?) all our TOWs were mounted on M151 Jeeps, with a trailer carrying the extra missiles.

Eventually later about '82(?) with the TO&E change. The Air Assault Infantry Bns of the 101 each got a full AT Co. with about 12 M151 mounted TOWs, IIRC. old fart

Here are pics of how the TOW was mounted on Mule. link But I don't remember exactly … old fart

Also note in some pics you see rails along the platform. Our Mules may of had those removed IIRC … Can't remember ever seeing any with rails ? old fart Plus we never had any with the 106RR. But IIRC the USMC did have 106s mounted on Mules in Vietnam. And it is mounted more towards the middle of the platform next to/behind the driver. The TOW was mounted right next to the driver. Pretty much on the edge/end of the platform. As you can see in the photos.

Unless you were standing behind it, when it fired….

A bucket of cool water might just help, but I doubt that

Yeah that is the problem with RRs, and a number of AT weapons, e.g. M72 LAW, M47 Dragon, RPG, etc.

I've seen some funny and very satisfying Youtubes with Jihadi types firing an RPG, etc., inside a building, enclosure, etc. Very enjoyable ! evil grin Just that many more the we won't have to deal with/kill, etc. thumbs up
