Did the USSR receive any M4 or M4A1 halftracks (with the 81mm mortar) in Lend-Lease? If so, about when? |

I'm a little confused by your question. U.S. half-tracks were designated M2, M3, M5 and M9. The mortar carrier was the M21. The U.S.S.R. received about 1,000 M2/M9 U.S. half-tracks, plus a further 1,100 AA half-tracks. See: link Not sure if any M21's were sent. Given that the Soviets only received a total of 1,000 half-tracks from the U.S., I would guess that if any h/t mortar carriers were sent, they would have been rare birds, indeed. |

The M4 was an earlier version of the M21, based on the M2 HT, the M21 was based on the M3. The M4 had the mortar firing to the rear, the M21 to the front. |

Curiously, the Lend-Lease Airforce RU document 7 does not list the VVS as getting any P-63 King Cobras. Wyatt |

Curiously, the Lend-Lease Airforce RU document 7 does not list the VVS as getting any P-63 King Cobras. Well Mr. Picky might point out that P-63s didn't go to the VVS, they went to the PVO. At least mostly … But then Mr. Picky would have missed the point. Because, in reviewing the document (as your post fairly demanded), it seems that shipments are listed to the British, and the French, and for the USSR (not just the VVS) there is a big fat 0 shown. I'm wondering if there was another program under which the P-63s were sent. Hmmm. Meditate on this, I will. -Mark |
