So.. 1st Manasas.. got a lucky break.. rather than retreating Bartow, I kept him in the woods for s couple of turns.. then about faced and exited the woods.. next turn I managed to hit Sherman in March column coming over the Bull Run ford… then nightmare.. Union rolled a 9, I rolled a 1… working it out I still won the combat but only disordered the Union column.. But I am not sure if we got it right… Rebs were in supported line but the Union in March column only had one fighting stand to Bartows
8.. we counted it as Rebs outnumbering Union by 2 to 1.. but should it have been 8 to 1.. and would this have meant that despite the crappy roll that the Union unit would have broken???

Without knowing if you are playing the newest or oldest editions, troop quality, etc., it's hard to figure out the results. However, being outnumbered has a ceiling of 3:1 or more, which would have been a -3 for Sherman's brigade, so that result is entirely possible. Basically, the game result is that your attack was poorly coordinated, met heavy opposition, etc., and Sherman survived a potential disaster.

The maximum game allowed in odds shift is 3-1.

Troops in "March Column" only Combat with 2 Stands thus Sherman's Unit is -3 for March Column, & -3 for 3:1 or greater (8:2 Stands), plus whatever other Modifiers might have applied. (See top of Page 62, Left Hand Column) Regimental F&F.

For Brigade F&F the above modifiers are about the same.

Sherman rolled 9 minus 6 for March column, outnumbered. You rolled 1, any modifiers?
Were you Fresh for +2, etc.

Hi. Yes.. Rebs were Fresh, Rebs have Rebel Yell, Rebs outnumber Union (as well as outflanking and hitting them in March column), Rebs supported (Supported line) Rebs and union also green… Also union has a leader attached.. Rebs have no leader – its 1st Manasas so they are all busily eating breakfast off table LOL. I think Union score is -3 for outflank, -3 for march column -3 outnumbered factor, -1 green but then +2 fresh and +1Leader (making total of 2) Rebs get end up with +5 a difference of 3.. so Union is disordered… Was wondering if there was anything I missed.. Unit was crossing Bull Run by the ford – wondered if this would impact on score or if there was anything else to take into account??

If the Ford was deep enough or not wide enough to allow a line to cross ( say waste deep or more) defender could get +1 defending favorable terrain??

GROSSMAN28 Feb 2019 8:31 p.m. PST

Wouldnt the Union get credit for 2 stands?
