Well when I started training in Army ROTC in '75. We had C-Rats a left over from Vietnam. And then in '80 with the 101 we got the same C-Rats and occasionally some LRRP Rats left over from Vietnam. Liked LRRPs, but had to add water. Then in about '84 we got MREs. And later occasionally @ '86 we got the T-Rats. Which were supposed to replace the Hot A-Rats. A-Rats was actually hot food. Cooked by real Army cooks ! But generally you got MREs … If we didn't get As … |

I have read that the troops in the Spanish American war were issued hardtack from the civil war. |

C-Rats & MREs were good for about 25 years. I still have @ 3 MREs but they have long expired ! |
