FoGN has brigade/regimental units. For most countries this isn't problem. The French are all one uniform, while countries with unit facings often deploy all battalions from a regimemet together. Not the British. Oh no,that is too table top friendly. No they have to have 3 separate facings in one brigade, which means if I paint to FoG I dont have complete battalions for lower level rules. If I do 6 stand battalions I only need 2 stands for FoG, thus end up painting a corps worth of battalions. |

The individual manoeuvre units in FogN are pretty obvious as they drive about on the table – so paint to be as flexible as you want. In many rules systems I've had to clump two battalions side-by-side to show a single thing under that system. I make sure it's as clear as possible for my opponent to tell things apart and sweat it no further. David F Brown |

This is exactly why I don't like playing brigades. The British have not only different facings in the same brigade but different unit types, Highlanders, light infantry, rifles, line and KGL. In brigade games like AOE you lose all those great unit details. |

My British are done as regiments not brigades. I know the British didn't deploy this way in general but I just have 2 16 man battalions to make a unit of 32. As much as anything else it is because my Brits were all painted, many years ago, as 16 man battalions so it just worked out. Facing colours aren't necessarily too obvious in 15mm anyway. Martin |

Well if you collect/build for tactical games ( battalions etc) and play these more GT rule systems, gabbing bits from your collection- then as Mr GdD/GdA ( wow and I am see this correctly as to who…!) puts it "clump two battalions side-by-side to show a single thing under that system. I make sure it's as clear as possible for my opponent to tell things apart and sweat it no further." Not playing, for that simple of a reason, when you Buddies will, seems bit narrow minded… RN? This would not be the reason I would not play these. It would be more to… they are just not my type for GT play and thus I probably do not have a copy( IE encourage my buddies to play other GT rules when possible… like AoE or ESR). |

Just to echo marshalGreg, most FoGN players running Brits seem to either: a) Paint specific battalions with their various facings inside each brigade unit – if they are building a new army designed mainly to play FoGN; or b) they simply clump 'British Line' bases together if using old figures or those designed for other systems, and not get too hung up about regimental facing colours. |
