… In Syria. "Kurdish-led fighters overran the last village held by the Islamic State group in Syria on Wednesday, confining its once vast cross-border "caliphate" to two small hamlets, a war monitor said. It is the culmination of a broad offensive launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces last September with US-led coalition support in which they have reduced the jihadists' last enclave on the north bank of the Euphrates valley near the Iraqi border to a tiny rump. The capture of the village of Baghouz leaves the few remaining diehard IS fighters holed up in scattered farmhouses among the irrigated fields and orchards on the north bank of the Euphrates River….." Does anyone knows more information about the "Compagnie d'Agriculteurs" (agricultural company), supposedly created in the year II (l'an II – 1793) of the revolution? I tihnk I once found something about it being part of the Armée de l'Ouest, but I cant find the source. |

Are you sure it is a military company and not just a commerial one as this one here (existing in 1789): see bottom line of the page Or just some farmers giving accompanying some soldiers (en compagnie de …) ? |

It seems to be a company attached to the army: The link is not working but searching "compagnies d'agriculteurs" 1793 on googlebooks will show two books mentioning its creation. Anyone knows more? |

There seems to be an article by a Capitaine Mauguin: "Les compagnies d'agriculteurs en l'an II" in the Carnet de la Sabretache, n° 347, January 1931. Unfortunately, this year is not available at Gallica: link |
