….new tanks "China is developing a lot of new and advanced weaponry, but a recent state media report suggests the Chinese military may not be entirely sure what to do with these new combat systems.
During a mock battle held in 2018, an "elite combined arms brigade" of the 81st Group Army of the People's Liberation Army was defeated, despite being armed with superior weapons, specifically China's new main battle tank, the Type 099A, the Global Times reported Jan. 20, 2019, citing a report last week from China's state broadcaster CCTV….." This is actually a piece of bad news for the West, since it indicates China is serious about using OPFOR-based realistic training, rather than relying on old Rec bloc type scripted exercises where the "Red" army always won. Stories of Chinese OPFOR training have been around for a while, including rumours of "Blue Army" soldiers who eat with knives and forks. |

Training and tactics can be changed quicker than technology. Will be interesting to watch how they adjust their tactics. |
