Greetings, Been gaming for some 30 years and a ton of game systems but took a 10 year break. Panzer is my number 1 game to play, but I was looking for another game that is similar, ie, different hit location, tracks, turret, hull, etc… have checked out FoW, Bolt Action and such, and they are just alittle to simple for me Looking for: Focus on Tank Battles Able to run 6mm minis, I have USSR and Germany forces, or covert to hex based or 6mm scale, Chits/Markers are ok, like Panzer, Tactical, ie 1:1 preferred for AFV if a sample rules set is available would be awesome 1to 2 players, my wife is interested in playing also, she is a keeper and visiting buddies. Current games I have:Panzer both board and Minis,Mein Panzer, Schwere Kompanie ,Tank Charts,Panzer War Thank You for you help and input :) |

Battlefront:WW2 ticks most of your boxes. Not 1:1 scale for vehicles. Also Squad Leader in Miniature |

Panzermarsch, if it still available ticks the boxes for tank combat, Tally Ho! |

Send me an email and I will send you the old file on our WW2 tank rules. We used with both 6mm and 10mm. Fire! Goon! Freur! scottnelson@bellsouth.net |

The old Tank Charts sounds like it is suitably crunchy enough for you. |
khanscom | 22 Jan 2019 7:03 p.m. PST |
Maybe try converting AH's "Tobruk" to minis? |
Extra Crispy | 22 Jan 2019 7:56 p.m. PST |
Just play Panzer with miniatures. |
FeWolf | 23 Jan 2019 2:17 a.m. PST |
Extra Crispy, I already do, Game can be Hex/Counter base also |
Dexter Ward | 23 Jan 2019 2:48 a.m. PST |
If you want a hex/counter game at this scale, then Squad Leader, Advanced Squad Leader or Combat Commander all fit. |

Look for Schwere Kompanie. There is a lite version online. Crunchy tank rules without being as complex as Panzer or Panzer War. |

Tractics (quite old, and OOP, but pops up on eBay from time to time). One of the first rules sets on the subject, and quite good, as I recall. Gives you the crunchiness you seek. Battleground too, which are still available from Syr Hobbs. Google it, and I'm sure it'll pop up. You'll want the Tanker's Challenge supplement too. |

If it's been 10 years, are you playing the old Yaquinto Panzer/ 88/ Armor, or the new GMT Panzer/MBT? |
FeWolf | 23 Jan 2019 3:37 p.m. PST |
Walking Sailor. got back in, Playing Panzer GMT and Panzer Mini, and Excaliber Games Version, now that I got back in in 11/2018. But before that ASL, SL, CinC, PanzerKampfe, Tank Charts, Star Fleet Battle, Sea Kreig, Tank War, Command Decision, actually what got me back in, I was cleaning out my bins and found my micro armor and some old rules, and I am now retired. |

Sorry – read right past SK on your list. So many have never heard of it. I don't think there is a less complex rules set with hit location like SK out there. You could look at the Lock N Load Tactical line of board games which is also ASL lite in many respects. I switched to it recently as a break from ASL. |

Are you aware that GMT Games put out a new version of PANZER a couple of years ago? |
FeWolf | 23 Jan 2019 9:53 p.m. PST |
coopman, yes I am, I am using 2015/16 printing,I bought them 11/2018. I ran into the Blog, Tiger vs t34, does some great reviews and mechanics of the games, of 5 different game systems link |

If you find that you like Tank Charts at all, I suggest you look at Panzer War. It is similar in many ways. But it has seen 20+ years of development since it's first version, while Tank Charts has not progressed from it's 1990ish publication. You will find at least as much detail in Panzer War, but backed by research that is both deeper and broader -- better information on armor thicknesses of each aspect of each tank, better information on the guns and each ammo type that might have been available, and more tanks … lots more tanks! And it plays better than Tank Charts. The game mechanisms move more smoothly, with fewer die rolls, fewer tables to consult, for each event. See our current thread on AT Gun Tables ( TMP link ) for the level of research that backs the Panzer War rules -- in-depth information and analysis that is always being updated. I am a BIG fan (in case you hadn't guessed) if for no other reason than I really like good research, and these rules are VERY well researched. Even if you never play a game with Panzer War, you will find it is an amazing assemblage of statistics on WW2 armored vehicles. Kudos to Mobius (of this forum), who has authored these rules, and maintained them, and offered them to the gaming community. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

Firefly if you can get hold of it – armour ratings, gun calibres, penetration factors, rate of fire, etc played it with my 1/300 scale WW2 tanks for years before selling all including the 2 x 2ft fully modelled modular terrain boards (I use to submit kits into the IPMS many moons ago….) to one very happy buyer. |

There is us Maneouver Group on Wargames Vault. You will need your books on WWII tanks to create the specs for other than a few main vehicles, however it's simple and based on real world data. It works very well for tanks, Hull and turret hit locations AND you get the limitations of view depending on turret facing and buttoned and un-buttoned. It works happily with a company a side of tanks and with a bit of practice a few more. It does not have a points system, I have never seen one that works with real terrain layouts. If you think it may be of interest, look at the free stuff first, if that not the sort of thing you want then it's not for you. PS it's 1 to 1 for AFV's. |
