During the FWOR, we went from matchlock to flintlock … First everyone has matchlock, then appear the "rouet" invented by German gunsmiths between 1515 and 1520, then the "chenapan" appeared in Holland 1530, then in 1587 was invented the system at the "miquelet" last stage before the real flintlock battery … Also in my opinion, some mercenary troops would normally have a more modern weapon than anyone else from the beginning of the FWOR and why not French ? So in the battle of La Roche-l'Abeille, on June 25,1569, the Huguenot regiments of Rouvray and Pouillé, counted a number of soldiers with arquebuses with the "rouet", usable despite the rain unlike the matchlock arquebuses. |

Well, matchlocks were still the most common weapon in the first half of the seventeenth century. |
