Would you invest in any army for a period or genre you did not care for, just because your friends/gang/club were getting into it? |

It would depend. My group did Old West games, and I bought a few figures to support that, but not enough to put on an Old West game by myself. When they got into 15mm Napoleonics, I got some Saxons on sale and did a Saxon army, which could be allied to the French, but wasn't really be a stand alone army. These are OK, but they really aren't my periods. I don't think I would be willing to invest the money and time to build a 25/28mm Austrian Napoleonic army with hundreds of figures, though. Grelber |

I may make a minor investment for the cause but, if I'm not interested, I'm not going to spend much time or money. |

My club doesn't "get into it". Each guy has his own interests and builds so everyone can play. Then next game he plays what someone else presents. Of course one or two guys share an interest and do it together, but that's not the norm. The only exception is for Flames of War, where those interested split off their own group. |

Maybe if the appeal was big enough, I usually do my own thing. |

Ivd have to be at least a bit interested in the subject before I committed. |

Will and have. But they get donated at some point. Stray units left here tend to grow into armies. |

Did that once, by the time I got stuff painted they moved on to other rules/periods. |

I have in the past and now have armies with no opponents. Now days I probably wouldn't unless it was under a dozen figures and I didn't need new terrain. Was that a yes or a no :-) |

No, but I undertook projects in conjunction with other gamers that had me buy armies and it turned out I was the only one who purchased my armies. |

Stray units left here tend to grow into armies. He he … it's it funny how your miniatures seem to have an easier time recruiting a thousand others to go on some insane crusade than you do getting a dozen people to come over and play one? :) |
rustymusket | 20 Jan 2019 8:25 a.m. PST |
Yes, I have in the recent past and a long while ago. I am not sure I would going forward now, though. Too little time to invest in something I am not wild about now. |
KSmyth | 20 Jan 2019 8:29 a.m. PST |
Yes, if it interested me enough and the investment was small enough. Last year I bought and painted 24 of the superb Flint and Feather figures from Bob Murch/Crucible Crush to game with a friend. No regrets at all. Staying away from Cruel Seas because I have buckets of coastal vessels in 1/600. I'm hoping to play with theirs. :) |

My group consists of two people, only one of whom buys miniatures, paints same, buys rulebooks, reads same, etc. The question does not apply. LT |

Let's say that someone in our group was very into Carlist Wars. He better collect and paint them all himself, and also run the games. While we're waiting for him to get them done, he can play in 15mm SYW, 25mm FPW, 25mm AWI, Ironclads, all of which are collected and painted by one guy. Colonial games, zombie games, 15mm ACW, Napoleonics… two guys run them. We don't need "club projects". If you want us to play something new, don't try to assign anything to anyone. The one time that was tried, I was already gearing up to do GASLIGHT, and my "assignment" was already taken care of. Speaking of GASLIGHT, a bunch of guys joined in, because they could basically do anything they wanted. Nobody said, "OK. You take Austrians." |

Never again. My game, my figures….your game, your figures. If we happen to cross great! More for everybody. |

Would have to join a couple of games first and read up on the conflict before actually springing for lead etc |

Depends on the period, if it is one that I "might"be interested in I might work on a supporting cast unit. If it were something too esoteric, like carlist wars or 30s retro sci-fi probably not. If it is Battletech or 40k, Hell no. |
