HGMS-Midwest runs a Guadalcanal game at Great Lakes Naval Station! On Saturday, February 9 from 1pm – 5pm HMGS-Midwest will commemorate the end of the Guadalcanal Campaign with the Navy at the National Museum of the Sailor [building 42] located at 610 Farragut Avenue, Great Lakes, IL 60088. We will use a mega version of Axis and Allies Guadalcanal complete with Axis and Allies War at Sea figures. No experience necessary – rules will be taught. Players will take on the rolls of historical commanders like Halsey and Kurita. This game will have a "blind" element to it – the overall commanders will brief their subordinates in a separate room with a situation map. Then the commanders will remain in the room waiting for the results of the turn – the subordinates will come out to the megaboard to carry out the operational orders [play the game turn]. At the end of the turn the subordinates will note the results and return to their commanders to brief them on the results of the turn. Then they will plan for the next turn and so on. Victory Points accumulate each turn and are awarded for sinking of Battleships, Carriers, and ownership of active Airfields. First side to accumulate 15 vps wins! Please sign up with Steve Fratt at president@hgmsmidwest.com [name, phone, email] – space is limited to 18 players and that includes the Naval Personnel as well. We will have two smaller versions of the game to be played face to face for those not in the mega game. Sign ups for HMGS-Midwest members only – you may sign up if you indicate that you want to join HMGSMW and pay the dues. Sign up now to assure a spot! |
