… might gain new heights

"Over 1000 Mysorean rockets were recently unearthed from the silt of an abandoned well at a village in Shivamogga district in Karnataka.

by mid-nineteenth century itself historians, on digging into the military past of the British, had discovered that the Congreve rocket, in fact had its roots in the Indian subcontinent- in the kingdom of Tipu Sultan…."

Jurgenation,

Impressed that you will move forward in time to do Cuddalore. Looking forward to pics! I have been gradually preparing Cuddalore in 15mm. Both in 28 and 15mm, a lot of conversion of figures needed since insufficient in the way of correct figs available.

Can anyone recommend a primary source which gives the headgear and other dress of the British? Just want to confirm the statements in British Grenadier book 4, which has info.

good Luck..paintings never help. The orders were to conform to Tropical conditons..There was supposed to be a Madras hat..white,kind of conical wide brimmed. I just use wide brimmed AWI,w/ shortened or no tunics, paint the blue ticking on white for pants and shirts.the Highlanders ..who knows, then there also the Hanoverians..it all changed in the 1790's..but here your guess is as good as mine. I have researched the heck out it. and until someone else shows me different.,I am sticking with my little guesses.

for Cuddalore,my scenario will be for the Britsh (EIC) forces to take the redoubts, because without them the Mysore/Franco force will be forced to leave Cuddalore, because then the brits can move up their siege guns.Painting up more Mysore troops as we speak. Mixing in some of the fine Iron duke Mahratta inf. with my Indus /Eureka/London war room mix.

The flat, pancake-like turban was in vogue at this time for Sepoys on both sides. The unique tallish white hat for Europeans on the British side is easily converted by adding a little putty to hats of AWI British in slouch hat. I also wonder whether the Hannoverians wore it and whether the Highlanders wore it and trews. John Ingham in the British Grenadier AWI scenario book 4 says the Hannoverians and Highlander wore the white hat and trews. Eg all the red coated Brit European regulars had the same basic dress. Would love to know his source for this if anyone knows it.

Very interesting uniforms at Cuddalore and plenty of scenario possibilities since the fighting lasted for some time. Jurgenation if you would like to discuss more on Cuddalore feel free to contact me at fnzaal "at" gmail.com
