Finally managed to get a look at the TTA RPG, I'm so up to date….

Now I've always been a fan of the TTA books since I picked three of them up in a second hand bookshop as a student and they've been inspiration for more than a few RPG scenarios I've done over the years. I was hoping for something good in the RPG and some nice additional background, but feel somewhat underwhelmed. Its setting in the timeline isn't quite where I'd have put it. I'd have placed it further on when the frontier is bigger and there are more alien races – but perhaps you loose the iconic Proxima War vessels. Quite a bit of the additional material feels too contemporary and somehow looses the charm of a retro-future that never happened. So I'm not sure I'd run a game with it! Rather I'm thinking I'd use the Traveller Black Books though I'm not sure how to work TTA-verse vessels in Traveller as there some quite different assumptions in play. Mainly just wondering what other peoples thoughts were?

My biggest complaint with the RPG was that the alphans and proximans were just underwhelming. Space elves and space orcs. Meh.

Yeah, I know the original books didn't exactly flesh out either race even taking into account the non-cannon stuff published as Galactic Encounters, but I think they tried too hard to give them 'depth'. Personally I've always reckoned that players do better with stereotypical alien races rather than detailed and nuanced ones or at least attempts at it….
