You were asked – TMP link

Most Overlooked Fantasy Army?

And in the final voting…

20% said "Hobbits/Halflings"
18% said "Lizardmen"
17% said "Flying Monkeys"

Some army nobody thought to vote on.

Well, I don't have an army of Halflings per se, but I do have a number of units that act as auxiliaries for the Elves or the Dwarves.

Andrew Walters16 Jan 2019 9:40 a.m. PST

Survey should have read "winged monkeys", since they're not flying all the time but they do always have wings. Some winged monkeys don't fly much, while some un-winged monkeys do fly (airplanes, catapults). So "winged monkeys" is correct.

Winged monkeys, not flying monkeys, pass it on.

This has been your most pedantic moment of the data. You're welcome.

Well, of course Halflings are the most overlooked army in fantasy! Especially if the dwarves, elves, and men are standing behind them.

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Try the veal!

"Hobbits/Halflings" armies may not be common, but a surprising number of Ancients armies had scythed chariots (aka "lawn mowers") to deal with them… ;-)

Some army nobody thought to vote on.

Well I voted for Halfings.

I even have an unit of 20 of them for my Empire army.

As a veteran fantasy war/RPG gamer, I do not use Halflings/Hobbits, except when I play a Tolkien game. Outside of Tolkien's world, I don't care for them. They are his, and his alone, in my mind, and games.

I love Dwarves, and I especially love Gnomes, however. I do not discriminate based upon height -- I just don't care for them outside of Tolkien. Cheers!

I for one am very much looking forward to the continued expansion of the Old School Miniatures company range of Gnomes. Here's a few highlights from one of their recent blog posts: link

I love Gnomes, too (my personal favorite race for D&D; one of my favorite armies for fantasy war games). Built an army of them 15+ years ago. Been thinking of doubling them from 50 to 100 figures. My Goblin army has grown to be 150+. Bad thing is, my unpainted pile is not being touched, so adding more to it, is not a great idea… Cheers!
