We all have that one period we wish we had. For a variety of reasons we never quite start it, or have many false starts and never quite get there. The one period I have always wanted to do is the Crimean War. My interest in all things historical was piqued by a book about the history of cavalry. In the plates was a swedish hussar of the 7YW and I loved the whole look! The busby the pelisse. Soon this lead me on to famous Hussars of history and i ended up at the Charge of the Light Brigade. What a story, then reading into the war there were the bearskinned guards and the peerless British Infantry of the time. The stoic Russians the French including the FFL. Problem was noone else played and the closest i could get was Napoleonics and so there it is has sat on the back burner for getting on 25 years. Do you have that one period? FM |

Not including periods for which I am waiting for figures, I always thought the 7YW would be fun. My interest was at a fever pitch five years ago when my older daughter gave me a book of Knotel´s work done on cigarette cards that she found in an antique shop in Dresden. Then I saw all the cavalry I would have to paint and decided WWII North Africa would be the next project. The only remnant of my grand plan is a tab in my project spreadsheet. |

Well, I built the Barsoom project, but I've never found opponents. Of those I haven't-- Wild West, and lurking in the back of my mind urban guerilla warfare in the mid-20th Century--Ireland 1919? France 1943? Germany 1946? |

Samurai Wars. But I don't worry, someday I definitely will sculpt and produce figures for this. |

Napoleonic. I have bought and sold the figures twice now. I love the look but no time to paint and little time to play. I'd want to go big battles, but I also like 28mm. |

Thirty years War. Bought some figures but never painted them nor did I buy rules. French Foreign legion in the Saharah and Tonkin. Never got past the reading stage on that one. |

Ever since reading Peter Mathiesson's Under the Mountain Wall – an account of his visit, in the early 60s, to a stone-age tribe in the highlands of New Guinea – I've thought this could make quite an intriguing wargame mini-campaign, full of quick raids against nearby villages for prestige, women, pigs and tubers, accompanied by a great deal of strutting and preening of feathers. I'm actually being honest – it could make a great game. The trouble is no one has had the good sense to make figures for it; oh, and in 54mm, mind you. I'm still waiting. Lots of other projects never started, of course, but this is the big one. |

Several, but Italian Wars has been on the burner the longest. I cannot decide if I should do it in 28mm which looks the best, but would take ages to get anywhere or 15mm which would better accommodate the amount of figures needed, but still take quite some time to do. Christopher |

I've started quite a few. Bought figures. Painted a unit or two. Then I got bored and moved on. That list would be too depressing to compile.

Started WW1 in East Africa with HLBS figures but they dropped the line before I could paint enough to game with. Sold the what I had a few years ago and never picked it up again. Also wanted to do the Crimean War but no one in the club was interested and I felt overwhelmed with the possibility of painting figures for four armies. |

ONE? Several: ~ 13th Century Crusades 100YW – Crecy 100YW – Agincourt WOTR Italian Wars – 1490 – 1525 Samurai – wide period range here I do have a small late medieval DBA Army that I purchased, but a couple of units have troops that are too tall (different figs manufacturer), so I need to swap those out for others. |

Crimean War. Love the history of the conflict, plus it is IMHO the best example of the cusp point in the evolution of Second Generation Warfare (where the rifled barrel takes dominance on the battlefield), which is the most interesting transition, again IMHO. While I have these attractions to the period, basically, I feel like I would suck it up and that would be extremely disappointing. |

WW2 Naval and Napoleonic Naval. I've played both as board games which would directly translate to miniatures but somehow I never get around to them. I keep thinking, oh I'll do another battalion of x,y z instead. |

Russian Civil War has been started and partially sold off twice. Considering a 3rd try. Seven Years War has also been started and sold off twice. Not considering a 3rd try currently. I really fancy Mughals ad Rajputs in 28mm but I think that isn't possible yet |

I've wanted to do the 1885 Riel Rebellion ( or the NorthWest Resistance, or whatever it's called now) for some time. Not been able to overcome my resistance to converting figures that are close but not quite right for the conflict. Bonnie Prince Charlie and the '45. And so many new 28mm figure ranges available for this period now. I've been interested in this one for a while as well, and thanks to the Paperboys, I'm almost there! Peter Dennis has taken care of painting all that tartan for me ;) link |

Seven Years War, I bought Young and Lawford's book back in 1972, and have one unpainted infantry regiment stashed away in a corner, but haven't gotten any further. 15th Century Byzantine. An idea that came to me in the late '70s, but hasn't really gotten very far. Sepoy Rebellion. I have two or three figures for this and a small statue of Ganesha, but that's about it. There are a bunch of other things that have come and gone over the years: Sumerians, samurai, a pair of big fantasy armies, Balkans Wars, WWI, etc. Grelber |
