My stirips of Line infantry are 8 men, but only 7 fit on the base, leaving me with a spare.

What to do with extra 2 per base (units are 4 or 6 bases)

Put one in front or behind the line (which one – in front or behind?)

ditto 2

Only on some bases?

Keep to put on non line bases (eg, around the Officer base)

Something else

For my spare 6mm figs I put them together on a separate base – sort of like in skirmish formation

If you put them behind the line then can be the NCO file closers.

If the figures won't fit on the bases then my usual solution is either use bigger bases, or just use fewer figures.

In this particular case I'd use six figures per base and use the spares from three such bases to make another one. Bingo, you've suddenly got 33% more bases without painting any more figures.

I have sliced up Irregular strips in just the manner described….
