A good day for the French. A little vin rouge to celebrate – perhaps a nice Bordeaux? |

What a Tanker is a brilliant set of rules, so much fun. Legion4 – the German players started the game with a Panzer IIC and a Panzer IVD, while the French had 2 R35's. Two more players were late arrivals, and got a StuG IIIA and an S35 respectively. One of the R35's damaged the Pz II enough that its player drove it off the board and respawned. The other R35 destroyed a Panzer IV and damaged the StuG and the respawned Panzer II before itself was destroyed by the StuG. With the additional poker chips, the French upgraded the respawning/destroyed R35 with the B1. By then the S35 was unchecked and so was the B1. The Germans really took chances and forgot that side armor and rear armor were vulnerabilities. Still, it was a blast. |

Sounds like a good game ! But as we know many of the Germans Panzers were Pz Is and IIs at that time. One on one there were not too many French or UK AFVs that could not "best" them. |

My understanding is about 20-25% of the German armored force in France 1940 were Panzer I's, so you are right about that. The rules for WaT don't have stats for MG-armed tanks, so they are not used. I dis come up with a way for them to be used similar to armored cars (which also are not in the game rules), basically I halved the ranges and only allowed AFV's that only had MG's to force a target to button up unless they rolled double-sixes (in which case I allowed a couple of strike dice to simulate a wildly lucky hit). One on one, I agree, and WaT is fun for that. Of course, there are no impacts from the Luftwaffe or other factors such as the limitations of one-man turrets or tank driving ranges. I do think the game does a very good job of simulating the feel of a tank crew for the player. |

Yes, regardless of the hardware, the Germans were fighting modern mobile combined arms warfare, i.e. Blitzkrieg … Some of the other forces may have understood combined arms. But the Germans knew how to actually execute it effectively and efficiently … Regardless, looks like a fun game !

Got to play in a demo game last September at HMGS-South's HURRICON. Really enjoyed it. Bought the rules and waiting on some MDF dashboards I ordered from Dark Ops in UK. This is a fun game. I would caution rules lawyers and rivet counters they might want to give a pass but if you want just a fun time with just enough historical thrown in give the rules a look. |
