I'm pretty much a total B&P Noob, but 200 land points is essentially 2 starter forces. AOK.

But,unless I am much mistaken isn't a 200 point naval scenario pretty much mandating 2 ships? Like I say, I am very green at this, but the sloop is only like 15 points, and there is no way you can fit 185 points of crew onto one ship, so we're talking at least 2 ships per player. Right?

Yes, for most people you will need to have bought a little extra to field 200 points for land combat. The starter sets are great to give you a core unit to build on, but most nationalities will want a bit more just to for versatility.

A lot can be gained with unit experience, however. Get that group of Milicianos trained!

For ships, you should not need two. As an example, the Spanish starter box with a sloop and all it's guns/swivels can make a 205 pt force. Spanish Militia with a seasoned commander, 2 units of 4 trained militia, 2 units of 4 veteran lanceros, 1 unit of 4 vet marineros, 1 unit of 4 vet indian militia. Outfitted with a sloop with a full deck of light cannons and swivels.

Just to add a bit more food for thought, play around with the force builder a bit and you will find that the larger, more costly ships really eat into your points.

A fully loaded light frigate with medium cannons and swivels will set you back 127 pts.

We can also make loaner units and ships available on a limited basis for this event. Don't let a small lack of pewter keep you from coming to the tourney and killing pirates, gathering loot, or sinking ships!

Thanks.

I have bought up quite a bit of B&P stuff over the past 18 months. Let's face it, I've been a very bad boy.

Unfortunately, none of it is worked up. I should be able to spin up 50ish figs and a ship if I forego certain things like, eh…sleeping for the next 5 weeks. We'll have to see.

At present I am still trying to figure everything out. I wandered into the force builder, but got really confused down in the lower part of the page with options like "musicians." What is with that?

For starters, what is the preferred method/approach to washing the ship hulls before priming? My impulse is dishwashing detergent like Dawn in warmish water. Am I on the right track?

I highly recommend the Facebook group for Blood & Plunder. If you haven't checked them out for some good tips on playing and painting, do so.

For my ships I did exactly what you plan. Dawn in warm water and heavy rinsing. For the primer I used a spray primer with multiple light coats. As in the first coat was just a lot of little speckles of color. After three light coats, the ship was mostly covered and the paint has stuck perfectly.

And, if you plant to attend the tournament, there are no painting requirements! Show up with what figures you have, just plan a few lists ahead of time and come ready to play.

Playing with bare metal figs? Sacrilege!
