"Peter Jackson has confirmed that he still holds the film rights to the iconic Dam Busters story and that he is keen to get a re-make into production soon.

The original film was "romanticized" and was subject to the UK's Official Secrets Act, which meant that in 1955 some of the technical details of the operation were not allowed to be shown.

Jackson, a New Zealander, recently won plaudits for his work re-colorizing and smoothing World War I footage in his documentary They Shall Not Grow Old…."

The foot-dragging continues.

How does one exactly gain "rights" to make a movie of a historical event?

It's been about 10 years now.

I wish someone else would make the film first, since otherwise, it may never be made, based upon the last decade of inaction.

Let's hope he makes a better job of it than his Hobbit trilogy. To be honest, I suspect he will get distracted and it will never happen.

Since it doesn't involve any Americans and the results were hardly worth the cost [from what I understand] it's unlikely to be a box office hit.

The skill, courage and innovation are not in doubt, of course. Amazing story.

A good film of it would be nice to have. But I'm not holding my breath.

He recently saw this project through and from those who have seen it they say it is superb:

So I am very optimistic should he decide to go ahead with the Dam Busters project.

I suspect the delay is because they can't decide what to call Gibson's dog.

I hope it is made.

My late uncle was a Dam Buster reenactor.
