2. To then play in said game
3. Flea market buys

1) To run games
2) See Friends
3) Buy stuff in Dealers Room
4) Buy Stuff in Flea Market
5) Try New Games

Order may vary per convention. Sometimes I've gone to a convention specifically for a chance to try a particular game. Sometimes specifically to see friends who could make it there too.

Rudysnelson03 Jan 2019 9:10 p.m. PST

Sell stuff
Buy stuff
See old friends
See game systems in action

Grumble8710603 Jan 2019 9:23 p.m. PST

1) To see friends
2) To run games
3) To volunteer for HMGS East
4) Buy stuff in Dealers Room
5) Sell Stuff in Flea Market

1, 2 and 3 are all about equal; often the order changes on those three.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP04 Jan 2019 2:23 a.m. PST

In no particular order:

Spend time with friends
Run games
Play games
Shop at flea market
Look at miniatures and terrain at other peoples' game tables

To spend money, no other reason.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP04 Jan 2019 4:23 a.m. PST

Friends
Sell in the flea market
Buy in the flea market
Theoretically,
Buy new stuff and
Play games,
but these are getting harder to do. Giving serious thought to coming a day late to Cold Wars. Just not feeling the welcome.

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP04 Jan 2019 5:23 a.m. PST

To try new games.
See product in the flesh.
Shop the vendors.
Shop the flea market.
See well presented games.

Vigilant04 Jan 2019 6:19 a.m. PST

1. Shop
2. See what's new "in the flesh"
3. Check out new rules
That pretty much covers it.

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP04 Jan 2019 6:33 a.m. PST

Robert P--why is it getting harder to play games?

TSD10104 Jan 2019 7:12 a.m. PST

1. To play games
2. To run a game (I really like hosting)
3. Flea Market

1. Play against new players
2. Play against people I only see at the cons I go to
3. Run games
4. Observe other GMs
5. Observe/discuss scenario design

… and, of course …

0. YouTube link

KSmyth04 Jan 2019 8:22 a.m. PST

1. To run games
2. To see friends in a game-saturated environment
3. To see the creative work of others
4. Try new games
5. Check out the Bring and Buy
But more than anything it's run games and see friends.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP04 Jan 2019 8:25 a.m. PST

pzivh, I try to avoid long games these days--and I prefer horse & musket. I went through Cold Wars Friday PEL early this week, and wasn't even vaguely tempted. Seemed as though most of what they had was computer-moderated, and my feeling is that if a computer gets to tell me my tactics didn't succeed or my order isn't allowed for an unknown reason, I should still be drawing a salary. Not the sort of thing I do for free.

And of course if I rolled in at my customary Thursday evening, the earliest flea market would be 27 hours away. (They tell me this is an improvement, but no one's told me who it's an improvement for.) I figure a night at the Host and a day of eating out is $150. USD That's a fairly stiff price for no games and no flea market.

Bowman04 Jan 2019 8:38 a.m. PST

In order of importance:

Robert, I'm sorry my FIW games aren't more to your liking.

Please feel free to drop by and be a walk-up. I'll make sure to give you something or someone fun to play.

I didn't feel like running my 1798 Irish Rebellion this year since Bill Molyneaux re-inspired my interest in the FIW.

FYI, there are plenty of horse and musket games on the schedule for Cold Wars. In addition to the ones hosted by epturner, there are about 20+ more. If I get a chance, I'll list them here.

That's not including the games using the Carnage and Glory II computer moderated rules which, by the way, will be some of the best looking games at the convention.

Hope to see you there.

coolyork09 Jan 2019 9:06 a.m. PST
