I have been browsing through the internet to see what these 1977 (Maria) and 1974 (Frederick) first editions are selling for, and am amazed that Fred books are available for a lower cost than the shipping! Marias seem to go for much more! Were a lot more Freds published than Marias? GdeP |

No idea, but it would not be surprising if the Fred book sold a lot more copies than the Maria book, given that the subject matter probably appealed to more folks (I'm a Maria fan myself). My copy of the Fred book appears to be an Australian edition (by Wren Publishing). Why the publisher thought that an Australian edition was warranted, I can't say. I think I paid $5 USD for it at the Book Nook in Belmont, Geelong in the mid 70s. By the way, I assume that you realise that Duffy updated both books for Emperor's Press. The Fred book was just a second edition, but the Maria book is now in two volumes: Instrument of War and By Force of Arms. |

There is less demand for the old Fred because it was updated in the Emperors Press version. The Army of Marie Therese was made obsolete by Duffy's two new volumes on the Austrian army. In a word, both books are obsolete so their prices have tumbled. |

Thanks to you both! I enjoy all four of those books, and used Duffy's Maria data to do one battalion of Hungarian regiment Bethlen in light green facings and small clothes uniforms as he noted in that told book. So I have a Hungarian brigade with dark blue, light blue, red and green. Colourful, but more "Imaginations" that factual! GdeP |

I had the chance and almost bought the Frederick the Great bookbut didn't want to break what I thought was a set. |
