$30.00 USD for a three day con. What do you pay for all the fantasy/science fiction cons? Bet it's more. There is some overhead to our conventions and staffing costs too. I thought the $25.00 USD price break was just about right for pre-reg. Remember, next Historicon is going to have a parking fee attached for those not staying at the venue and the day trippers, punters, etc. If we can keep the prices reasonable at least the old members, like me can show up at least once a year. Add the hotel costs in, food and fuel and the costs add up and are sometimes prohibitive. But life goes on. Eventually I won't be able to attend. I will enjoy it while I can if still within my means. |

What evidence do you have that giving reduced price badges for those who wish only to shop would endanger HMGS ability to operate cons? I think they would need to try some of these options before making such statements. After all, HMGS has, last time I looked a war chest of nearly $400,000 USD (and that after paying for the Baltimore debacle) -- surely running an experiment for a con or two would not break the bank. |

I think they would need to try some of these options before making such statements. Ya, sure. How about finding a candidate for the BOD elections of the HMGS who wants to try this "experiment" and vote him/her in? This can be their platform. Good luck. Also, in logic, the burden of evidence is on those making the initial claim. And that was improving Historicon by adding a "free shopping" ticket to the convention. The poll stated, "Allowing anyone into the dealer hall". That ball is not in my court. Btw, the treasurers report is at the membership meeting at Cold Wars. It would be more productive to ask these questions at that time to the BOD members, would it not? |

Why do we need a candidate for the BOD? Are you saying that the Board won't entertain any new ideas unless there is a member advocating for it rather than coming from fora frequented by members? BTW, people ran on moving to the next level, moving to Baltimore, etc., and these platforms cost much more than offering reduced fees to the vendor hall. Besides, the organizations 2300+ members generate about $57,000 USD a year for the organization which provides little in return so that is a good buffer. And actually, you made the statement: "letting in shoppers for free is a stupid idea that will undercut HMGS's ability to run the cons." That to me requires evidence as you are presenting something that is clearly up for debate as unequivocal fact. While I am a member, I am usually not able to attend since I come to the conventions for only a single day (Friday) to shop so am usually gone by the time the meeting at 8:00 p.m. As an aside, last year only 23 members attended the meeting. |

As to the "well everything is picked over by then" argument, do what I do. Pre-order and tell them you are picking the product up on Sunday. Simple. I do this with my main supplier. It helps me because I get what I want (plus he gives me a discount for pre-ordering) and it helps him because he can bring extra copies of those items and possibly sell them to someone else because I didn't buy up the only copies he had brought. |

As an aside, last year only 23 members attended the meeting. This is what happens when you hold the meetings at prime time evening gaming hours. I wonder if attendance would be higher if it was in the late morning or early afternoon. |

Why do we need a candidate for the BOD? Seriously? Because that is how current policy of the HMGS will be changed. It won't be changed simply because a few people are discussing it on TMP. And actually, you made the statement: "letting in shoppers for free is a stupid idea that will undercut HMGS's ability to run the cons." Yes, that is a response to those who made the original proclamation. The onus is on them. |

I would like to attend meetings. I am usually helping a friend a 7pm host his game. I host Saturday at the same time slot. If those meetings were held at 9 am any of the days I would be there…..just me, opinions may vary. |

yes, there is no GOOD time to host the meeting. SOmething is going at almost all time of the day. They used to host the meetings in the morning, before the dealer hall opened. I know at times the meeting ran long enough that the dealers [at least the ones who had no other coverage] had to get up and leave. [Sunday afternoon would not interfere too much. Except that everyone has pretty much left the premises.] |

The one thing I'd change about Hcon would be to bring back the painting competition. It used to be a "must see" at the con. |
