Wow, I guess I have a different definition in my mind. To me, Sword and Sandal movies are the old Steve Reeves movies, Hercules etc., Jason and the Argonauts and Helen of Troy. The movies Flashman14 mentions all have a religious bent to them.

I'm a real sucker for sword & sandal movies.
BTW I also like all the "religious" movies mentioned in opening comment.

So what is a "sword and sandal" movie? It helps to have a definition. Found this after a quick google search.

The peplum film (pepla plural), also known as sword-and-sandal, is a genre of largely Italian-made historical or Biblical epics (costume dramas) that dominated the Italian film industry from 1958 to 1965, eventually being replaced in 1965 by Eurospy films and Spaghetti Westerns.

"My Son,The Hero" parodied many of these. MST3K riffed on several as well(Hercules And The Captive Women,Colossus And the Headhunters, etc.) Incidentally,TCM is going to be showing several of these movies in January.

At the very least, both rate "Honorable Mentions" in any such listing!
