I just bought the frostgrave soldiers box to make some Black Company figures. I think they're going to look close to what I imagine when I read the books. |

The company won't be uniform in the slightest in terms of kit or style. Lots of spikey bits? At least for Croaker when he is all glamoured up. |

My first impression on reading the first book was a "Renaissance" mercenary company. Not Landsknecht. More like The Last Valley. But then the next books just got weird. |

I think in one of the early books the average troopers are described as wearing morions. |

They do wear morions, but I think that helmet might be more associated with one of the Taken than wth the Black Company. I believe they dye their clothes black, and their standard is black as well. I would take models from across every range and paint them black. The motlier a crew they look the better! If you wanted to field a bigger selection of troops, then I would go with Fireforge's Foot Sergeants or maybe the Perry English Army box. Mix and match, with an eye to keeping the look as mongrel as possible, but paint everything with he same mostly-black scheme to bring it all together. |

One thing about the Frost Grave and Oath Mark soldiers is that there's lots of cloth to paint black and separate heads to allow diversity or uniformity as you choose. |

Supposedly the original Black Company soldiers were black or dark-skinned, from their plane of origin. The contemporary Company would be quite varied in skin and body type. |
