Would you wear clothing that promotes a particular sports team at a wargaming show or convention?

Personal logo Bobgnar Supporting Member of TMP27 Dec 2018 9:33 p.m. PST

I would wear a T-shirt that has the name of a particular sports team on it. Is that promoting the team? Probably a hat too.

Personal logo Milhouse Supporting Member of TMP27 Dec 2018 9:50 p.m. PST

I usually wear Italian soccer team jerseys.

Oh wait. That's my cousin.

I know some attendees dress to raise awareness for the homeless

capncarp27 Dec 2018 10:38 p.m. PST

Nope. I don't feel strongly enough about any particular team to do so.
If the shirt was free and comfortable, I'd wear it, unless that team happened to be harboring Michael Vick at the time. Then I might burn it.

bsrlee28 Dec 2018 2:42 a.m. PST

Hobby supplier maybe, sports NO.

Dynaman878928 Dec 2018 3:35 a.m. PST

You couldn't pay me to promote a sports team much less have me do so for free.

PK Guy Brent28 Dec 2018 3:43 a.m. PST

What an odd question.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 3:53 a.m. PST

Very odd question….

And yes I have worn a hat or shift for my (Amercan) football team.

TheKing3028 Dec 2018 5:49 a.m. PST

I enjoy wearing shirts and hats from my favorite hockey team.

PzGeneral28 Dec 2018 6:00 a.m. PST

I wouldn't go all crazy with body paint and fright wig, but I'd wear a hat and or jersey / tee shirt…..

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 6:03 a.m. PST

No but I work in the beverage industry so might wear a shirt that has the name of a brewery on it. More than likely I would wear a souvenir shirt from a historical site.

Fitzovich Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 6:52 a.m. PST

No, First of all I simply cannot stand sports and secondly I rarely if ever wear a shirt with anytime of logo or advertising on it. Maybe knocking around the house from time to time, but never out.

Florida Tory28 Dec 2018 6:52 a.m. PST

Yes.

If one of mine was at the top of my shirt pile when I was packing. Other than wearing an outfit related to a game I am running at the con, I don't really care what I wear.

More broadly, except for specific events and work (which has a dress code), I don't really care what I wear beyond function (pockets, water shedding, etc.) and protection from the elements. In fact, at work, I still don't care; I comply.

KSmyth28 Dec 2018 8:01 a.m. PST

I almost always wear a Mariners cap, and sometimes a jersey too. It's howMy friends find me.

Old Wolfman28 Dec 2018 8:36 a.m. PST

I've seen Premier League,Bundesliga,La Liga and MLS jerseys worn at cons. No problem here.

Personal logo ColCampbell Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 8:55 a.m. PST

No, I wear wargaming related clothing.

Jim

TodCreasey28 Dec 2018 9:47 a.m. PST

I have on many occasions but it is just another shirt really

Possibly try a follow up question: When at a convention, do you use deodorant?

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 11:13 a.m. PST

If I was a sports fan I would.

DeRuyter28 Dec 2018 11:58 a.m. PST

79thPA that is how the question should have been worded given some of the responses!

If you are a sports fan would you wear your team's apparel at a wargames convention?

My answer would be yes. Sometimes a hat together with a wargaming specific shirt. By observation I see a lot of fan gear at shows: EPL, MLS, NHL, NFL (in particular at Cold Wars with the Eagles winning the Super Bowel).

Personal logo Parzival Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 2:32 p.m. PST

Sure, though I'm more likely to wear something gaming-related.

capncarp28 Dec 2018 2:54 p.m. PST

PK Guy Brent: "Possibly try a follow up question: When at a convention, do you use deodorant?"

Don't you wish everybody did?
Perhaps a travel sample in the convention goody bag?

Winston Smith28 Dec 2018 3:03 p.m. PST

I used to buy HMGS convention tee shirts and wear them.
But since it's now just a day shopping trip, I don't.

I keep my Penn State and Steelers shirts for watching football games.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 5:00 p.m. PST

No. I don't even own any sports tshirts. I do have a baseball cap for my favorite team in each league, but don't wear them in a convention (or anywhere else indoors, I suppose, except maybe a diner).

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 5:48 p.m. PST

I often wear the sweatshirts from my old roller derby leagues.

But the name and number on them is mine, I'm not cosplaying as some other team's player!

Chuckaroobob28 Dec 2018 10:22 p.m. PST

Yes, I don't have many but I'd wear them.

WaltOHara29 Dec 2018 2:13 p.m. PST

I like to pick up odd minor league baseball shirts here and there. I will wear those sometimes but not as a conscious choice or to make a statement.

Personal logo Milhouse Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2018 5:11 p.m. PST

I take my con fashion inspiration from The Haberdasher

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2018 5:47 p.m. PST

Alackaday, The Bully Wee have never sold fan shirts.

Double G30 Dec 2018 7:50 p.m. PST

You're on fire in this thread, good job………….

Green Tiger31 Dec 2018 2:46 a.m. PST

I only wear sports gear when I am playing sport- maybe also acceptable if attending a sporting fixture – otherwise I feel this is a mode dress best avoided…

Aethelflaeda was framed31 Dec 2018 9:53 a.m. PST

They clash with my kilt. Now if I could only get a Byzantium Blues chariot team tee shirt or maybe a Glutius Maximus the champion gladiator tee to go with it I might. I already have one about feeding the lions but the colours…

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP31 Dec 2018 10:35 a.m. PST

Ooh, A Greens Chariot Team shirt would be outstanding!

DF200931 Dec 2018 11:52 a.m. PST

I personally can't stand sports- don't understand watching a bunch of grown men who are younger, healthier, and stronger running around a field with a ball then slappin each other in the rear. Can't think of a bigger waste of time- tho this is coming from a guy who plays with little army men… So no sports wear for this guy.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP31 Dec 2018 2:37 p.m. PST

Well I think the important thing is all must wear serviceable clothing and it be clean. evil grin

Aethelflaeda was framed31 Dec 2018 2:44 p.m. PST

Some folks are into re-enactment attire for themslelves as well as their figures. Perhaps for the sake of simulation, might not cleanliness garner howls of disapproval from the purists?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP01 Jan 2019 9:17 a.m. PST

Probably … you just can't satisfy everybody ? evil grin

My buddie's daughter and husband were re-enactors. They had a "Braveheart" era wedding. I chose to wear a modern suit & tie, etc. And said I was just a Time Traveler from the 21st Century. Seemed to go over well … evil grin

Howler01 Jan 2019 6:19 p.m. PST

Yep! and proudly would I wear my Bama shirts, especially if they win their 7th this coming Monday

Double G02 Jan 2019 12:22 p.m. PST

"Yep! and proudly would I wear my Bama shirts, especially if they win their 7th this coming Monday"…….

7th? They've won 17 and are playing for their 18th.

Grumble8710605 Jan 2019 7:40 a.m. PST

When it's cold at Cold Wars and I want to dress down, I may wear a Princeton sweatshirt, the only such garment I own.

The only time my dad used to wear a sweatshirt was when he was working on the family vehicle. It was yellow and grey and very old and worn (the sweatshirt, not the vehicle). Only years later did I realize it had originally been orange and black -- from when he played in the rugby club in college.

George!
I'm wearing my Bama hoodie and wool hat right now!!
Roll Tide!

Yes, I often wear Alabama and Boston Bruins hoodies and hats at Colds Wars and Fall In.
They are clean and look good.

"I'm wearing my Bama hoodie and wool hat right now!!

Bama is a machine, we'll see how things shake out tomorrow night, wow are they loaded with talent.

I loved the guy at Cold Wars back in 2008 shoehorned into this tee shirt "18 wins and one GIANT loss" referring to Opie and the Giants and their horseshoe up their asses win vs the Patriots.

Nice looking shirt, too bad it was a medium and he was pushing three bills.

Personal logo x42brown Supporting Member of TMP07 Jan 2019 12:55 a.m. PST

I don't but see no reason that if given a reason to (say a descendant playing for a club) that I wouldn't
