Have you ever taken a flight to attend a wargaming show or convention?

Winston Smith26 Dec 2018 11:27 p.m. PST

No

Forager26 Dec 2018 11:32 p.m. PST

No, but I would consider it were I to go to Historicon again. The drive from Indiana is pretty long! I would still drive if it's 6 hours or less. Maybe farther, if I went with others.

Titchmonster26 Dec 2018 11:32 p.m. PST

Yes. To several UK cons and Crisis in Antwerp from the US.

Dschebe27 Dec 2018 12:43 a.m. PST

Yes, Salute 2017. I'll do it again, someday. Good time to visit London.

Yes. Strategicon, Historicon, Guns of August etc…

Timmo uk27 Dec 2018 5:19 a.m. PST

No.

Yes. Small group of us flew into BWI from Tampa area and rented a car to head to Historicon at the Host. Been quite a few years.

Personal logo Stosstruppen Supporting Member of TMP27 Dec 2018 5:59 a.m. PST

Yes Historicon, probably do it again in the next few years.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP27 Dec 2018 6:15 a.m. PST

No. But I've attended wargaming conventions in places I was flying to for other reasons.

Rudysnelson27 Dec 2018 6:17 a.m. PST

Yes, back in 1985, I flew to San Francisco to attend Pacifico's. I had a great year there the prior year when I represented Zocchi / Gamescience. So I went this time for myself. I had a great time but I had trouble getting my stock there.

I shipped 11 boxes which at the time cost a little over &120. Only six made it to the show four were returned to my store over a month later and one disappeared never to be seen again.

So my sales were weaker than expected and expenses greater.
Last show that I flew to.

Garryowen Supporting Member of TMP27 Dec 2018 6:54 a.m. PST

Yes, to Cons in Germany and England (as Guest of Honor, so the cons paid), and every year for the last 15 to Gen Con (again, Con pays).

coolyork28 Dec 2018 2:30 p.m. PST

I have before and will again ,mainly for Historicon ! Even though I don't mind the drive with a couple friend as we like stoping at historic sites along the way from Florida .

Personal logo Yellow Admiral Supporting Member of TMP28 Dec 2018 3:11 p.m. PST

I've been flying to far away conventions since the turn of the century, though I try to combine the visit with another trip to save money and maximize vacation time.

I went to Historicon in 2000, 2001 and 2002 while my father in law lived in the DC area. I went to Cold Wars in 2009 at the end of a business trip to MD. I attended the last two Navcons in Milwaukee, then switched to the SYW con in 2017, and I visit my mother and some of the extended family clan in WI for most of a week before/after that.

I also stopped at Historicon in 2006 while I was riding a motorcycle around the country, and I drive 1600 miles round trip to Enfilade every year, but there are no flights involved in those. :-)

jdpintex13 Jan 2019 6:52 a.m. PST

Yep. Historicon, Nashcon, Huzzah, New Orleans, etc.

That's what frequent flyer points are for.

corzin14 Jan 2019 5:21 a.m. PST

no
and since i live near Philadelphia, I am not sure what con I would even want to fly to.

custosarmorum Supporting Member of TMP16 Jan 2019 6:06 p.m. PST

In a way -- when I lived in Hawaii (for two decades) I timed trips to visit family in Pennsylvania so as to coincide with Historicon. I then only had to drive a couple hours or less to Camp Hill/Lancaster (and maybe three to New Carollton). My mother would always ask if I won the prize for traveling the farthest laugh.

kcabai17 Jan 2019 12:02 a.m. PST

In 1976 I was going to school in NY. I flew back to Chicago to go to Gencon. I was running a Chainamil game and needed to take my minis. (Minifig's-LOTR) So I put a dab of white glue on the bottom of each 3 figure-metal base and put them into "Antony&Cleopatra" cigar boxes. The airport x ray check took forever because I had to keep explaining to everyone what these were for. Needless to say that was the last time I ever flew.
