A tin of mince pies made during World War II has been found under a hotel's floorboards. The Christmas staple was preserved in air-tight conditions underneath the floor and they are still in good condition – but regrettably are not edible. They were discovered addressed to Phil Davis alongside a letter signed "Best, Love from Mum."… link |

Call me fussy, but if they are not edible I don't think that they can be described as "in good condition"…. Merry Christmas everyone! |

Maybe they just mean that she was a poor pie maker and that's why they are not edible. |

I'm sure if you put them in the microwave for 30 seconds they'd be fine. A bit chewy maybe. |

Better get a structural engineer in just in case. They could be load-bearing mince pies. |

Being wartime, they were probably inedible when they were made. |

And it was probably not real mince either. |

Ah … yeah … like fruitcake, mince pies are an "acquired" taste I'd think. However, those recently found mince pies should be in a museum if not the garbage … |

Mince pies an acquired taste ? Perhaps – but one which I acquired many years ago ! G'mother's mince pies made with Brandy and Rum ! Two slices and you'd be schnockered ! |

I've always suspected that, in the wrong hands, mince pies could make a very effective weapon of war… |
