A tin of mince pies made during World War II has been found under a hotel's floorboards. The Christmas staple was preserved in air-tight conditions underneath the floor and they are still in good condition – but regrettably are not edible. They were discovered addressed to Phil Davis alongside a letter signed "Best, Love from Mum."…

Call me fussy, but if they are not edible I don't think that they can be described as "in good condition"….

Merry Christmas everyone!

Maybe they just mean that she was a poor pie maker and that's why they are not edible.

I'm sure if you put them in the microwave for 30 seconds they'd be fine. A bit chewy maybe.

Better get a structural engineer in just in case. They could be load-bearing mince pies.

King Monkey25 Dec 2018 6:14 a.m. PST

Being wartime, they were probably inedible when they were made.

And it was probably not real mince either.

Was Mum trying to do in Phil by sending him an IED*…?

Ah … yeah … like fruitcake, mince pies are an "acquired" taste I'd think. However, those recently found mince pies should be in a museum if not the garbage …

Mince pies an acquired taste ? Perhaps – but one which
I acquired many years ago !

G'mother's mince pies made with Brandy and Rum !

Two slices and you'd be schnockered !

I've always suspected that, in the wrong hands, mince pies could make a very effective weapon of war…
