I would concur with the majority here. Rio Grande lost points with me when Ford changed out the troopers' Springfield carbines for Winchesters in the final fight. Guess he wanted the troops to be able to fire more in their mounted charge, but he should have had them using their Colts SA revolvers for that charge.

Always got a kick out of Victor McLaglen in the post saloon in his civvies,fighting off the troopers sent after him,but then his wife shows up to take care of things.

It's not McLaglen's wife that shows up, but the wife of Major Alshard who after checking to see if he's ok then orders him to the guard house.

While not part of John Ford's cavalry trilogy, The Horse Soldiers was also about cavalry and directed by John Ford. John Wayne had one of the leading roles. It was set during the American Civil War and is loosely based upon the historic events of Colonel Benjamin Grierson's raid into Confederate territory. It is a good movie.
