Looks like the Balkans is heating back up again, as Kosovo votes to create its own small army, and Serbia threatening war over that decision.

Some things never seem to change, other than the date(s).

Too many cultural and religious differences. It is bound to happen sooner or later.

Is Serbia afraid Kosovo will invade?

Just hope the President-elect of the EU does not visit, with his wife, traveling in an open topped car…….

No, they don't recognize that Kosovo exists. Kosovo was part of Serbia, a major part, until the Ottoman Turks invaded and defeated them. The Battle of Kosovo was where the Serbs got creamed and they've burned about it every since. If you think about what the Alamo means to Texans then you have a basic idea about what Kosovo means to the Serbs.

Over the centuries the Serbs in Kosovo were wiped out, replaced, or converted to Islam. However the Serbs never gave up their claim to the place and eventually regained it after WWI only to lose it again when Yugoslavia broke up (the Kosovo War back in '99).

IIRC, Kosovo declared its independence back on '08 and I don't think the Serbs took that too well. Building an army is another way for the Kosovars to assert their independence and I reckon the Serbs don't care for that.

@Winston

Dude, bite your tongue! Talk about tempting fate!

The last thing we need is for some "damn fool thing" to happen in the Balkans right now.

A major percentage of the Kosovars were refugees from Albania during the Hroxa regime (or their descendants).

Goes to show the danger of allowing un-assimilated immigrants to become a majority in a portion of your county.

Here's a great video about the Battle of Kosovo. It gives a lot of background to what happened to the Serbs. Interesting stuff.

Another point to remember is that several of the terrorist attacks in recent years have been by Kosovar Albanians.
