Here is a link to my recently finished Aztec army, using a mixture of Assault Group, Gringos40 and Foundry models. Based for Impetus at present, but the models are also removable for 'En Garde'.

Superb work, Mithlond. Surely Aztecs are the most colourful army out there!

I wouldn't have the heart to paint an Aztec army!

Good job on those. When I did mine I only kept the eagle Knights and the Cuachique in separate units, as for DBM and ADLG I needed distinctive units.

The rest of the army I based them with different weapons, spears in one lot and club types in the other, again to satisfy the army lists rather than how they actually fought where , from what I read they were all mixed together, so a priest or eagle warrior could be stood next to a novice. From my readings it was possible only the shorn ones were an actual unit.
I also found using the same 3 companies you used the best option, to get a good variety. Anyway they are a great colourful army to paint.

Thanks for the comments guys, @aynsley683 that's a lovely looking army. Yes the trouble with the Aztecs is they don't really conform to ‘conventional' listings; we play a lot of Impetus at our club so I've gone with that as an army list BUT the figures are all able to come out so in theory I could rearrange them how I like. I'll certai ky be skirmishing with them too for En Garde and I've also seen an army list for an Aztec Rampant version too. The main thing was, though, that I wanted a colourful project to offset my other 20mm WW2 stuff and 1/1200 napoleonic naval. It's certainly done that!

Mithlond-i found Aztecs one of the most challenging to do, and yes I wanted something colourful but different as well.
I found it difficult to decide how to base them all and be able to fit both the army lists and keep it a little historical. But hopefully you had as much fun as I did.
I did samurai a few years before for the same reason , colourful and different. Now they were a lot easier to base and fit both history and the lists.
Will you be doing more conquistadors and their allies ,Tlaxcalan, to fight against yout Aztecs ?
