"Russia is deploying nuclear-capable Tu-160 Blackjack bombers to Venezuela this week as part of an increasingly provocative pattern of bomber training flights, according to American defense officials.

At least two Blackjacks will fly from a strategic forces air base in Russia to Venezuela as part of a series of training exercises that will include long-range refueling, said officials familiar with Russian plans for the flight.

The bomber foray to South America will be Russia's seventh training flight for Blackjack bombers in the past three months…."

"And the cost is…"?

Perhaps two Blackjack bombers if the locals take out their frustrations on the visiting craft.

Efforts in part to deter American or other local countries from taking forceful action there. No big deal, a strategy used by all major powers for many decades.

RudyNelson +1. It's to pre-empt any opportunistic regime change in Venezuela. It would have made more sense to send a squadron of Sukhois, but that would take several aerial refuelings while the Blackjacks have the range.

Yeah, wouldn't want to change regimes right now when everything is going along so well.

I'm not interested in regime change, at least not brought by the US; the last one cost too much and created chaos in the ME. So if the Ruskies want to waste their resources on Venezuela, they can have at it.

Wise opinión my friend… let's Maduro boil in his own hell…

Russia and China only want fuel… planes and warships are part of the theater act….

Remember Cuba….

It did make the stockholders of Halliburton a lot of money, so it depends on who we're talking about. I'm sure the Cheney biopic 'Vice' starring Christian Bale will have something about that.

I suspect if we airdropped a few pallets of toilet paper there, with nice notes attached, we could get the locals to deal effectively with the situation.
