What color was the British denim overalls used for fatigue duties? I assume various shades of blues to greys, but…

Also, a pic in an Osprey said that a Mediterranean theater Soldier is wearing a denim shirt, but it is black and white pic. Would the denim shirts be the same color, or khaki?

Thanks!

According to the 1939 regs the denim overalls were green

You can see the difference in colour between the green denim and normal battledress in this picture of Corporal Jones:

But don't panic, the colour of the denim could vary significantly.

Blimey, 'tis a leprachaun!

Well, have to admit, that wasn't the answer I expected. I may have missed it in Osprey Men-at-Arms 354, but green was not therein seen. I expected blue ish or khaki.

But here it is:

it looks pretty "Yank" really.

Denims were green, although early in the war they were brownish khaki. Captured sticks of khaki denims were issued to U Boat crews!

Are you perhaps thinking of some other garment? Like mechanics overalls?

There weren't any shirts issued in denim, just scratchy wool (two different patterns) or aertex (in KD or jungle green).

I have a 1948 set – they are Khaki- greenish khaki I'll grant you but definitely Khaki…

Hmmm, thanks GT.

Would you say the right paint scheme would be an ochre? Perhaps an ochre tending towards the green side of things?

If you Google the 1970s British TV series Danger UXB you'll find plenty of options. A greenish ochre sounds about right, possibly Vallejo Russian Uniform.

The series is well worth a watch if you've never seen it. About ten episodes I think, they're all on YouTube.

Yes, VJ Rusian uniform is a pretty good match for faded denims.
