I have had this book for many years now. An excellent source and read. Highly recommended. |

First Edition dates from the early 90's if I recall correctly. I wonder if this is a reprint or an updated 2nd Edition? Not that it actually needed any extra work but perhaps Jack Gill has found some new information? Absolutely recommend this book if you have any interest at all in the Confederation of the Rhine or the 1809 Campaign. |

As a casual browser, curious that I had never heard of this book, I was immediately interested by Tango's posting title. Ah, but read the book title carefully. This is purely Napoleon and his German Allies in the 1809 campaign. Highly specialised and worthy no doubt, but how about a book title that could drop the last three words plus numbers? That would be good seller. |

Looks like it is a new, 3rd edition. The 1st edition, as stated, was already outstanding! |

I am sorry to say I think it is a third reprint, not a third edition. The latter means a revised text, the former usually means a new cover but basically just the stock ran out so we printed lots more copies (which is very encouraging and suggests success)
There would be absolutely no doubt if there was any new edition. This is something publishers would be at great pains to publicise.

It says 3rd edition on Amazon, so I assume that there have been some changes, but maybe someone can tell us more. |

Second and subsequent editions do not necessarily include any new material. I have been a rather serious book collector for decades so I have owned and seen a lot of different editions of and printings of books. Unfortunately the terms second edition, second printing, and reprint, rightly or wrongly, are merely nomenclature. All you can be sure of if a book is advertised with any of those terms is that you do not have a first printing of the first edition. Having said all of that, with reference to this particular title, a book dealer friend of mine has told me that there is new material in it. How much, I don't know. Tom |

I do many a book review but only in medical textbooks as an editor of a specialist journal (not half as impressive as that sounds). As Garryowen says, publicists tend to confuse reprints with new editions. I know nothing about this book but found three different ISBNs for each reprint (obviously) but no suggestion of new content. In my experience 2nd and 3rd Editions do have that claim plastered all over the cover and adverts. I would buy a book tomorrow about Napoleon and his German Allies First Empire.

Well, having owned the first edition for many a year I can only say, if you don't have it but are interested in the 1809 campaign, it is worth buying. I constantly revisit it |

According to the publisher, Greenhill, there is no new information contained in the new edition. |
