We're having a dispute with one of our advertisers.

The advertiser claims to have paid us via PayPal.

We can find no evidence of such a payment in our PayPal account, and the advertiser refuses to give us the transaction number. They say they sent a 'PayPal eCheck' from their bank account, and have given us a date, but nothing in our account matches this.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to resolve this matter?

Contacting Paypal and telling them the specifics you know seems the best option.

It may be pending on the senders end. Often it can take a few days for it to actually be processed. You would not know this as it has not actually been sent to your account yet. The sender would be able to see on his end as pending. I think they say it can take 3 to 6 days for an echeck to clear and show up in a recipients PayPal account.

No, it was last April.

I've contacted PayPal, will see what they come up with.

Is there any legitimate reason for not wanting to give the transaction number (aside from not wanting to admit it doesn´t exist)?

April's fool?

TJ hit it on the head.

Not giving vital information to resolve this doesn't pass the sniff test.

Pull the advertisement until you receive payment. That would be the logical action as a person/company is not entitled to a service/product until they have paid for it. Until then it is not a legally recognized transaction or contract.

+1 Texas Jack, Doctor X and StoneMtnMinis. You've been more than patient. Pull the plug.

I have had excellent customer service from PayPal over the years.

I keep asking them, but instead they give me the eCheck number.

From PayPal's help center site:

"An eCheck is an electronic payment funded by the buyer's bank account. With an eCheck, the recipient should receive the money within 3-6 business days."

I would ask then to provide a cut and paste image showing the transaction to your account: should not be an issue if they actually made the payment.

The issue has been resolved.

They have apologized; the transaction was not a payment to TMP, but a refund to another party.

They have paid their bill. grin

(Never got a reply from PayPal…)

PayPal may have been reticent (with good reason) to give you information about a transaction to which, apparently, you were not a party.

'Course, a notice saying "This hain't yer transaction, sos we hain't tellin' you 'bout it." could have been in order.
