This depends a lot on the troops (I assume rifle companies) and the year. For my part, I am slowly amassing troops in shelter-halves from Warlord plastic sprues for use in Italy.

The look depends on the stage of the war you want to depict them. The classic HG look for Sicily/Italy ‘43 is with SS style camo smocks. You could use standard SS figures for those. Warlord do them in metal and plastic and the Battle Honours range was quite nice, now carried by Gladdis Games. Uniform colours would be different so trousers would be in Luftwaffe blue or tropical sand.
