Nice work.

Aquarium plants of course come to mind.

To delineate terrain types -- such as dense forest, impassable thickets, or clearings -- you might try cutting mouse pads into an irregular shapes and painting them in slightly different colors than the mat.

I think you should have some ruins, too. There's nothing like walking on a jungle trail and coming upon ruins -- even when the jungle trail connects the parking area to the local ruins historical site, and has a sign in three languages that says, "Historical ruins 150m".

For modern scenarios, go ahead and put in the parking lot and sign. And the port-a-potty.

That turned out very nice. A box or two of those Pegasus palm trees would look great on it.
