OK here's a question. I have a kilogram of bithmus and a large supply of 60/40 lead/tin solder. The lead/tin is not bad for casting in PA and similar molds, but I was thinking adding some bithmus would help the metal fill the cavities better, since it expands on setting. Has anyone tried this and what would a good ration of bithmus to solder be? TIA

Do you mean bismuth?

Yes, apparently I type with a lisp.

I advise against using any bismuth whatsoever. It will make the castings VERY brittle. Up to you whether this information useful or not. I am sure others here are more expert.

You can start with about 2% and work your way up from there. I suggest setting up an experiment plan, since casting temperature and mold conditions will also effect the results.

I've used it at times for small parts that had trouble accepting detail. Here is the reference I used: link
