Over at Hobby Games Recce I offer some of my initial thoughts on the Kickstarter campaign to bring Daniel Mersey's Battle Ravens to production. Although this kind of "battle game" might not engage die-hard wargamers, it offers a great opportunity to introduce kids and newcomers to the hobby with some fantastic production values and gameplay that gives players some meaningful choices to make.

Share and enjoy.

I have signed up for this, my first Kickstarter, after watching the latest series of The Last Kingdom. It is reasonably priced and there are no figures to paint although, if l enjoy it, l might be investing in some plastic figures to paint and play with.

Like Commands and Colors, Memoir 44, and Wings of War, these kinds of games are great ways to get newcomers in to the hobby.

I might take this to a boardgame night, but use my painted figures and some nice terrain in place of the board.
