Dan, the magnificent bastard that he is, fished this off eBay as a birthday present for me a couple of weeks back – one of the best skirmish games I ever played, an awful lot of my early 1990s was lost to this game!

Definitely a terrific game. Played it quite a lot.

Seeing the figures in a hobby shop circa 1994 and buying the rules is what got me into Sci Fi. I can remember painting my first Crusaders with U2's Mysterious Ways blaring in the background. Now when I hear that it gives me a certain satisfactory feeling. Shame they did not expand on these. Ended up writing my own rules for vehicles, walkers, etc. Even now when I buy new stuff, like Warlord's Varai I conceive of them in terms of Firefight stats. The Firefight figures figures are some of my all-time favorites and are on the never-sell list.

The only other games that have affected me so profoundly are PigWars, Full Thrust and Wesencraft's Napoleonic rules.

Still play them occasionally.

Thanks guys! Was a brilliant game and it never got the acclaim it deserved, hope i can redress the balance somewhat

@Gavin Symes – I don't know whether to ask you for an autograph or invoice you for the first half of my 1990s ;-) We've been mucking around with a version that nixes the squares and just uses open battlegrounds, batreps to come – and thanks for such a brilliant game!
