….Taliban attack.

"Abdul Rahman and his family drove all night in a rented car to escape the "absolute terror" of escalating violence in Afghanistan's southeast, joining thousands abandoning their villages in Hazara-dominated districts.

Rahman, 65, reached the provincial capital Ghazni on Thursday after a gruelling 20-hour journey made even longer by their vehicle breaking down along the way.

"People have left their homes and are running for their lives from Jaghori district," Rahman told AFP…."

At some point, the locals will either need to rise up against these terrorists, or learn to live under their rule, assuming the Talis decide to give them that choice, instead of beheading them all.

Good thing we have the EU military to help in these situations.

Found this from September, below.

"NATO is leading a non-combat mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan security forces and institutions. The Resolute Support Mission (RSM) was launched in January 2015, following the completion of the mission of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in December 2014, when responsibility for security in Afghanistan was transferred to the Afghan national defence and security forces. Beyond supporting RSM, NATO Allies and partners are helping to sustain Afghan security forces and institutions financially, as part of a broader international commitment to Afghanistan. The NATO-Afghanistan Enduring Partnership provides a framework for wider political dialogue and practical cooperation".

Between this statement, and US ops there, it seems neither strategy is working, and they need to take the fight to the enemy's home base in Pakistan.

Right now, the current plan seems to be failing miserably.

My husband served with the 1-508th in Afghanistan. His best friend, Danny, was killed there, sadly.

He said no American(or "westerner", for that matter, as John says…) was ever worth it. I don't ask; I don't bother him about what he went through while there. MY MOTHER, who John does NOT get along with at the very best of times, made a remark about "not letting it bother him for the rest of his life…"

The comment was made while my Mother was drinking(my husband does not drink), and John got up, said to me, "lets go, or have your sister drive you home. Your Mother is drunk. I am leaving."

5 years. On Christmas, it will be 5 years. I don't think he will speak to her ever again.

I've been thinking about that all day and still don't know what to say.

I hesitate to think about what it would take to fix Afghanistan.

As high a toll as these figures are let us also pay respects to the approximately 30,000 brave souls the ANA had lost and hope that the current dialogue with the Taliban bears fruit.
