I just finished this book, and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to run a '30's era Pulp game or campaign. Essentially, it is a history of the Shanghai underworld in the 1930's, focusing particularly on two of the leading gangsters, Dapper Joe Farren and Lucky Jack Riley. |

Wow, those must have been very interesting times for that part of the world.
linkNow all I can think of is the first part of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). :)
And the films with American actress Anna Mae Wong and other great actors in that genre and time.

Years ago I read "Policing Shanghai 1927-1937" by Frederic Wakeman jr. Since that time Shanghai is for me a continuing feast for games. Which othere city has three different regions for police competence ? (French, International and Chinese). Which other city has a gangster boss as chief of detectives ? (And he was a gangster befóre he became chief, not a poliman going bad). Looking forward to read this book to, thank you for the tip ! |
