Spithead have released two more sets in their Lissa 1866 series of ships, these are the Austrian Gunboats of the 3rd Division and the Italian Avisios,a Paddle Frigate and a small Steam Frigate. The Gunboats of the 3rd Division come in 2 classes, four of the Reka class and three of the Dalmat class, these can be differentiated by the larger bridge aft of the funnel on the Dalmat gunboats. As a sculptor I am particularly pleased with the way the Italian paddle Avisio's have turned out, they must be the handsomest vessels I have ever made models for. Two of these ships Messaggiere and Esploratore were capable of 17 knots and it was the Messaggiere scouting off Lissa Island that sent the message to Admiral Persano that the Austrian battlefleet was in sight. If you are interested in these or any other ships Spithead produce then contact us at vanilla55@sky.com and we will send you a list of our extensive range of 1/1200 scale Ironclad models . link |

Thanks for making these. I'm really really really really really really really sorry you're not going to let them remain in production, but at least I'll have a complete set. This pet sideshow of yours made Lissa 1866 a project worth considering for me. - Ix |

They could remain in production if there was a big enough demand to warrant a new set of moulds being made but due to the commitment required by customers to buy so many ships it is understandable. A battle like Lissa is not for the fainthearted and it would be daft for me to make a complete set of moulds if only a few ships were sold, currently I need around seven more people to subscribe to make this happen. I am only glad that there were enough people around to show the interest to get this project off the ground in the first place. It was you guys who took the risk of seeing a full set of ships being made, at least those that come after can now see that we actually followed this project through to the end so thanks guys. |
