The fourth scenario has been posted to the blog.

There are similarities to the earlier battles of Chaves and Braga, but at Oporto there were more regular units present and a larger quantity of artillery. From the Second Battle of Oporto, Wiki includes a good map showing the position of the Portuguese entrenchments and redoubts.

Better map for Oporto (the Allied assault) can be found
in "Maps & plans, showing the principal movements, battles & sieges, in which the British Army was engaged during the war from 1808 to 1814 in the Spanish peninsula and the South of France" Author Wyld, James (1812-1887) Mitchell, T. L.

Prince of Essling,

These are excellent sources for maps.

The first link does not list the First Battle of Oporto, whereas the Napoleon-series does give the Portuguese lines. It is possible that the French made additional works which are shown in the Wiki map.

Thanks for these.
Robert

Another good background article Robert. Saved for my future 1809 gaming once I finish up with the Portuguese "battles" (lopsided of course) of YR1808.

TMPWargamerrabbit,

Thank you for the kind word.

I have done many such scenarios for the ancient period but this project is my first time attempt at exploring some of the lesser played events of the Peninsular War. The fifth scenario in the series of six will appear next week Thursday.

Cheers,
