I have 8 boxes of these chaps to do. How do you prepare yours prior to painting?

Tally Ho!

No washing in soapy water after removing from the sprue*. Check to see if they stand up straight..some of the bases can be wonky, remove any obvious Flash, correct any bent rifles etc with hot water, replace the pre-cast flagpole with Florist wire then I stick them onto bottle tops with lumps of the wax covering (red or green) from babybell cheese (honestly :-) base paint them with matt black acrylic from craft Shops. (Marabu,Hobbyline or Kreul) In fact, I only use Marabu,Hobbyline or Kreul acrylics.

*The brush in the pic sort of scrubs the paint on
and seems to deal with any release agents.

Did you decide to use the Airfix rules in the end? I've recently managed to drop cast some old Airfix and I'm half tempted to go back to basics!

I did indeed Jef

The rules are a bit simple but make for a fun game

What did you use for the molds for drop casting ? Iīve considered doing the same to raise so more Airfix ACW troops

Brilliant! I haven't used them since college in 1983 but they still sit on my bookshelf as my entry drug into wargaming. At least you managed to make the canister stick properly; I wussed out and used card!

When you started this I took another look at them and they don't look any worse than other sets of ACW rules I've played over the years. I am half tempted to give them another go but with some good command & control rules I picked up from Wargames Illustrated many years ago.

I so far have drop cast some 1st edition 8th Army (same style as ACW) using red RTV rubber and Alloy No. 4 from Alex Tiranti. I have this insane idea to do Western Desert with 1/76 vehicles and Lionel Tarr rules…
