I was thinking of using this tank for near future sci-fi. Can anyone identify if it is modeled on a real tank or just fantasy?

I'd prefer not to use something that is in service now.

I think this is an ersatz Abrams

Looks more like a cross between a Leopard and a Challenger, to me. And that bustle rack has to go!

Ivan DBA25 Oct 2018 4:32 p.m. PST

That's cool, looks like it would make a good near-future or generic modern tank.

Got a bunch of them off Ebay cheaply awhile back. Definitely in the 15mm range. Can't rotate the barrel…so if that bugs you expect to get out the cutting tools.

I agree with Jav.

Agreed on the rack. I was hoping for moderny MBT nothing specific but do they are perfect for me. Dimensions on eBay are spot on with a 1/100 Abrams. Just ordered a full company (14) of them for $14 USD inc shipping ebay.com/itm/New-Green-Army-Tank-Cannon-Model-Toy-Military-Vehicles-Plastic-Toy-Soldiers/113249108473

I think it's loosely based on the C1 Ariete.

Not far from a chinese T96/99.

I'd go with that. It has the look of a number of modern MBTs mixed together. But that big bustle rack on the back of the turret really pushes it over the top …

You can get photo-etched brass bustle racks for not too much. Might be worth investing in some to improve the appearance of the thing.

Could always fill in the rack with some plaster to extend the rear of the turret…

That mbt toy? Just so y'all know, that's a real tank. It's a Japanese Type 10 Hitomaru Main Battle Tank, equipped with adjustable, hull-aiming capable hydropneumatic suspension, a 120mm smooth bore main cannon capable of firing ATGM's, and uses an auto loader. It has the Japanese version of chobham/NERA, as well as spaced armor, composite armor, modular armor segments, AND it has ERA on the roof to stop top-attack missiles! It has the most modern thermals and night vision optics, a dorsal mounted remote controlled .50 cal heavy machine gun for self defense antiaircraft duty, and a co-axial 7.62x51mm light machine gun.

To sum it up: it's a Japanese-made can of whoop-a$$
And that toy is actually to-scale at 1:100 of the real thing.
If you want to play the Japanese in a modern miniature war game, get that.
Mod it into Team Yankee. It's the first time I've seen modern Japanese armor at 1:100 scale, and it's freaking awesome to see it! I've had a bit of an itch to play a USMC and JGSDF joint defense list in Team Yankee, to be honest. Now to find the rest of the armor in miniature…
