Hi,

I'm looking for a modern tank/AFV skirmish game. Something where each player can control a single AFV – maybe up to a platoon – and have interesting/impactful decisions they have to make.

I'd prefer a moderate amount of detail per vehicle: I'd like vehicles to have differing armor values across different facings, but don't need every armor value on every piece at every angle! Gun performance over range, different performance over various terrain, different sensors would all be good.

From a damage perspective, I don't mind vehicles have a chance of being knocked out outright, but prefer a granular damage scheme with reduction in capabilities.

I have "What A Tanker" from TFL, but it only covers WW2 for the time being.

I am more interested in getting the feel right, so I'd be interested if there are Sci-fi rules that fit the above, with their own construction system – I can just leave the sci-fi chrome off in such a case.

So, what's the input from the greater TMP gestalt? Anything like that out there?

Thanks!
~Brian

Why not just proxy in modern vehicles for WaT?

Thanks everyone, for the input.

- MBT has a bit more crunch than what I'm looking for.

- Tanks! Modern looks like it could be fun, but may have too little crunch (I know!).

- I may just end up proxying for WaT – also heard they may do one a Cold War version in one of their Christmas specials.

Thanks again, folks.

Aside from the game systems listed here are there other rule sets that can be used for Modern / Cold War+? I've heard mention of Fist Full of TOW's, Micro Armor and Team Yankee.

It really depends on the detail. There is us:-

While it is a full combined ops game, a platoon of tanks per player may make a reasonable simple game depending on what you want. Some basic detail to judge it by:

1)Tanks have to turn their turrets to show where they are looking.
2) Tanks need to decide if the crew are head out or (un-buttoned) or head in (buttoned up),
3) Very simple "speed control" diffrent spoeeds have diffrent advantages.
4) Obviously gun vs armour ratings for Front, back, and sides of hull and turret.
5) Hull down and turret down covered.

You do need a fair bit of terrain and for tanks it is best at 15mm or 12mm scale or a really big table at 1/172 scale.

Uses D20 to reduce time wasting die rolling giving more time actually moving the toys.

t really depends on what you want. For a quick game to learn you might go for one tank each but it would be potentially bloody and quick.
