I went on a weekend family trip to Mount Rushmore and discovered two great spots purely by accident. First up, the Minuteman Missile National Historical Site. There is a visitor center with some inside displays plus two remote outside locations. One is a self-guided tour of a silo location that is only a surface tour. The other is a guided tour down into a command center that I was unfortunately not able to book a ticket for (full!). nps.gov/mimi/index.htm
The second place is the South Dakota Air & Space Museum at Ellsworth AFB. Big planes outside, lots of models/dioramas and smaller stuff inside. Highlights for me were the B-52, F-111, and a B1 (and I got to see an active one taking off!). sdairandspacemuseum.com

And here I was going to say "Nothing". I'll have to check these out when I go see Mount Rushmore. |

I visited the South Dakota Air & Space Museum at Ellsworth AFB in 2016 and for an extra cost we got a tour round the base highlight was a tour round the missile training facility. |
