I just finished another unit of cavalry for my Lace Wars project, just six more units left to do! link

Anyone with a clue as to what their standard looked like be kind enough to advise me, PLEASE!

Anton Ryzbak14 Oct 2018 11:39 a.m. PST

Sorry,

Those are Sir Edward Villiers regiment of Horse from 1694; bad form to ask for help and not explain what unit it is.

I believe that Sir Edward Villiers was a member of the Villiers family that became, and still are, the Earls of Jersey.

A reasonable guess as to the standard would be a yellow background with William & Mary/William's cipher on one side and the Villiers' arms (White shield with a red cross with five gold scallop shells, one at the centre and one on each arm of the cross).

Might not necessarily be correct, but a reasonable, and plausible, guess in the absence of more definite information and the approach I intend to take when I paint this unit myself.

DHautpol, Thanks for the info, maybe I will try contacting the Earl of Jersey directly, they might have some record.

Really nice work, I especially love those black horses with the redcoats!
