…. With Them.

"Most of us play games for the simple social pleasure. The challenge and a chance of winning are added bonuses. But for others there's a different agenda and it usually involves ruining things for everyone else.

Here's a short guide to some of the worst tabletop gamer offenders, and the best way to deal with them. But beware, you're off the edge of the board… Here Be Monsters…."

There is a local fellow that likes historical games: he is one of the few people in my area that plays. Unfortunately he fits into most of those categories. The worse is a modified 5.The Rules Lawyer. Unfortunately he creates/adds/subtracts rules to win: in several instances it has been just plain old cheating. Its very frustrating and takes the fun out of playing with him. I would love to play a game or two each week but I just can't do it with him.

I have unfortunately meet a lot of gamers that fit in this list. In fact the majority of them I have meet. I Have a friend who has a theory about this. "Many gamers are just anti social or just do not have people skills due to the nature of the hobby. All locked up in their game rooms, maybe loaners in school, they do not know how to relate. Aggravated by the fact they spent hundreds of hours building a collection, so everything has to be their way."

Just my observation, but I think there is some truth to this.

I met I guy at Historicon a couple years go and he want to get together and play some games, he gave me his business card and we exchanged emails as we live just a couple of miles away. And then he stop communicating, now if he see me at one of the cons he will walk in the other direction. We never played a game or were over at each others house. So either I some how scared him off or there was something weird on his end.

Among my coping mechanisms, remember to laugh. A well timed riff sometimes can help you go the distance("darken the sky with arrows"…"then we'll fight in the shade".) type.
