Backups should always be downloaded to other machines! No excuse for losing data this way. |

I read on the internet that Maersk got hit by a major hack a year ago. The only thing that saved them was that one of their hubs in Botswana was blacked out, which protected their computers from the intrusion. They had to rebuild using new hardware. They had couriers carry all the saved data to their main data center in London because the Botswanan bandwidth was too narrow to transfer it all in anything like a timely manner. |

Definitely no excuse for losing the backups. Decent DR always comes at a price, but just some offline hard storage can be real cheap. A lesson for all… |

Agreed! Because of my inherent paranoia I back up on two different computers, one of which I only really turn on for back ups |

there's no excuse for not having a backup . 1 terabyte external hard drives can be bought for under $100 USD . plug it into the computer , do backup , unplug it . data on a forum isn't all that important , do it once a week . |

yes but it is no so easy to do like a simple copy and past for an online database… anyway it look like we are not the only one :) -----> info from facebook page----------> am Mustafa Publishing LLC 6 pm Back up after almost three days down. This year has seen an unprecedented level of attacks on the HONOUR website, apparently mostly from bots in Russia and China. Tens of thousands of hits per hour have shut down the site on an almost monthly basis. I'm working with the ISP and Dustin Taylor my webmeister, to see if we can tweak some settings and/or improve the site's resistance. It isn't a Firewall issue; the Firewall is working and doing its job, not that there's really much data that could be stolen anyway. I don't keep customer payment data on the site; it's all offsite on PayPal and Stripe. |
